Sun, Oct 24: おにぎり (ONIGIRI rice ball) Zoom cooking class #1. 4pm-5pm. Let's have fun making ONIGIRI rice balls TOGETHER! Our volunteer instructor will provide hands-on experience of ONIGIRI making & decorating. We will show you how to make ONIGIRI into Japanese traditional style, cute animals, and Fall themed edible art. Tue, Oct 26: Tapete de Arena (Sand Carpet). Fulgencio Lazo (Seattle/Oaxaca-based artist) will create a sand carpet outdoors with 3rd and 4th graders. To keep everyone safe, we limited the number to 24 kids from 3rd and 4th grades in designated time slots of 10 minutes. Masks are required. In order to keep everyone safe, please only sign up if you know that your child is a responsible mask wearer and social distance observer. Signup Genius is coming soon!
Tue, Oct 26 - Mon, Nov 1: La Ofrenda and Bon-dana altar. At the school front entrance. Members of the McDonald International Community are welcome to visit la ofrenda & Bon-dana altar and add printed copies of pictures of their loved ones to it. Please wear a mask, and if others are there, practice social distancing. This year we will dedicate the ofrenda to McDonald Families who lost their loved ones this past year.
Wed, Oct 27: Virtual story time. OBON and DDLM joint virtual story time! Hear an OBON story told by Rev. Kanjin Cedertman from the Seattle Choenzan Enkyoji Buddhist Temple. This will be followed by Story Time “Un huipil para la muerte” with illustrator and author Esmeralda Rios Join our Zoom class here.
Thur, Oct 28: Craft Kit Pick Up. From 5:00 - 7:00 pm drive-through/walk-in at McDonald front lawn (*While supplies last*). We are offering 盆ちょうちんクラフト (Japanese paper lantern craft) and Calaveritas de Azúcar (Sugar Skull). You can then make/decorate them at home.
