Sept. 16, 2019

Dear McDonald International Students and Families,

We had a great first couple of weeks back to school and we are looking forward to seeing parents/guardians at Curriculum Night, which is Wednesday September 25th from 6-8pm. Below this letter is the schedule for the night. Please take a close look at which sessions are offered at each time slot.

Reminder: Curriculum Night is an adult only event. This year we will be offering childcare for those families who need it. Childcare is being paid for by the PTA and being run by KidsCo (our aftercare program). We have a limited number of spots, therefore, childcare will be offered, “first come, first served” and requires a reservation.

Even though you’ve probably heard the good news that your approved application to volunteer is good for two years, the Volunteer Office recommends that you fill out a Fieldtrip Chaperone application again this year. Many approved chaperones from last year are not showing up in the system. A new application will be a quick way to ensure you can go on a field trip this year.

With the rainy season upon us many more parents are driving their child(ren) to school. If you choose to use the “Kiss and Go” drop off method, please make sure your child can get out of the car by him/herself. Please make sure you use the entire drop off zone. And, please make sure your child exits the car on the right side (toward the sidewalk). This method of school drop-off is intended to be quick. If you know your child takes a while to get out of the car or if s/he wants to be walked into school, please park in the neighborhood.

The library is going social. Check out our section in the school website and follow us on Instagram to see what great books we’re reading.

The art studio is also on Instagram.

You might have heard that Dr. Thad Williams accepted the position of International Education Administrator with Seattle Public Schools, taking the role that Dr. Michele Anciaux Aoki has skillfully filled for the past five years. In this role, Dr. Williams will lead the district’s work in International Education supporting the district’s 10 International Schools, Dual Language Immersion programs K-12 in Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin and World Languages taught in grades 6-12.

Mark Your Calendars! Parent-Teacher conferences will take place before and/or after school the week of November 18-22 and all day on November 25 and 26. Your child’s classroom teachers will follow up with more information about signing up for a conference. If you are planning to travel for Thanksgiving and will be out of town on November 25 and/or 26 please make sure you sign up for a conference during the week of November 18-22.

Haven’t had a chance to check out the Student and Family Handbook? Download it.

Our hope is that you will be able to use this handbook to assist you in understanding our programs, procedures, policies, activities, expectations, schedules and services. Please use it as your first reference, and if you cannot find the answer to your question, the office staff will be more than happy to assist you.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Michelle Goldberg
