The Turners

Who are you and who are your family members?

We are the Turners:  Sutton, Marci, daughters Grace (6th grader at Hamilton) and Faye (2nd grader) and son Joseph (19 months, recently adopted from Ethiopia).

How did McDonald Elementary enter your lives?

We recently moved to Seattle, June 2011, after having lived overseas for 3 years in the Arabian Gulf (2 years in Abu Dhabi, UAE and 1 year in Doha, Qatar).  We chose this neighborhood because of McDonald and Hamilton.

What occupies your time?

Our free time is spent with kids activities (softball, soccer, ballet, and Gymboree) and with service in our church.

What would you like our community to know about you?

We would like the McDonald community to know that an international experience is one of the best gifts you can give your child.  Whether it be foreign language immersion, trips, or in our case, living overseas, exposing our kids to other cultures, countries, and beliefs has enriched their lives and also helped them appreciate their own culture.

What are your hopes for the future?

Our hope is to impact our community and workplace for God's glory, to raise kids that love learning and love Jesus, and by adopting to change the future of one little Ethiopian boy born to difficult circumstances.

Can you share a favorite or memorable elementary school moment from your past?

Both of us (Sutton and Marci) had "star" roles in elementary plays.  Sutton was Oliver in the 5th grade and Marci played Pinocchio (the boy cast got the chicken pox) In Kindergarten and the owner of the Toy Shop in 3rd grade.  Writers celebration, school performances, holiday parties, etc are the joyous moments in Elementary School!
