Music and front office news - Jan. 22, 2019

Dear McDonald International Students and Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend in honor of Martin Luther King. On Friday January 18, 2019 the students honored MLK by participating in a short assembly and peaceful march in the neighborhood surrounding the school. This event is my favorite event of the year! If your child has not mentioned this event to you, please take some time and ask them about their experience.

A Message from Ms. Pollema:

  • This year's music concert was a smashing success! Thank you to all who came out to enjoy the performances and a special thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to help contribute to the students' success! I would love to show the students some clips from the concert, so if anyone has any footage of either of the concerts, feel free to email Akpollema@seattleschools.org. Thank you!
  • In even more exciting news, I would like to inform you all of an amazing opportunity that our 3rd and 4th grade musicians are going to get a chance to experience! This year, on March 13th, our 3rd and 4th graders are going to take a field trip where they will get a chance to work with the LinkUp program to sing with, play recorder with, and listen to the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. This is a very rare opportunity for our students to make music with a professional orchestra! The students will learn to work collaboratively, listen critically, and perform professionally in a setting that most people do not get to experience in a lifetime! A Message from the Front Office: Important information for parents of McDonald International siblings entering Kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year:

  • Online registration begins Jan 7, 2019; please visit the SPS webpage under Enroll to complete the first step of the process. Be sure to list all siblings currently attending McDonald Int’l in grades K-4, as tie breaker preference is given to new students with siblings who will also be attending McDonald Int’l in 2019-2020.
  • If you want to apply to McDonald International School, you must also submit a School Choice Form to Admissions during Open Enrollment Feb 4-15, 2019, indicating McDonald International School as your first choice.  This form will become available February 4 on the Enroll page. Participating in Open Enrollment does not guarantee assignment, but the first tie-breaker is sibling preference.
  • Regarding Heritage seats for new kindergarteners who already have siblings at McDonald Int’l. Families do not need to indicate the incoming kinder student is a heritage speaker (home language other than English) on the SPS enrollment forms. Incoming Kinder siblings will be assigned to McDonald Int’l before other applicants, as the first tie breaker is sibling preference. Once assigned, siblings are also given preference for the language track of the older child(ren).
