Option School Fair coming soon - Jan. 8, 2019

Dear McDonald International Students and Families,

It was wonderful to have so many students and families participate in the winter concert on Monday and Tuesday nights. A special thank you to the parents who helped with the event.

January 19th is the option school fair, and on January 31 we will hold McDonald International School Tours. If you know of any families who are interested in our school for the 2019-2020 school year, please sure to let them know about these two events.

Seattle Public Schools' partner organization Seattle Alliance of Black School Educators (SABSE) will be hosting an educational equity event, “Seattle Public Schools and a Conversation on ESSA and its Impact on Student Learning” open to the community in the new year. Superintendent Denise Juneau will provide the opening address. The focus of the event will be on school accountability, decision making, school improvement, family, school and community engagement, and school discipline. Every Student Success Act (ESSA) will guide the questions for a panel of guest speakers.

The schedule for the event, hosted at the Northwest African American Museum, will run as follows on Saturday, January 12, 2019:

  • 8:00 a.m-8:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast
  • 8:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. Superintendent Denise Juneau
  • 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. ESSA Law/Accountability/Parent and Family Engagement/Discipline/Research/Questions/Answers Interested parties are strongly encouraged to RSVP to sabse.09alliance.17@gmail.com.

The Seattle Public Schools Ethnic Studies Program is hosting a community event to celebrate the diversity of our city and share the work being done on Ethnic Studies in Seattle Public Schools. The event will be held Jan. 12 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Centilia Cultural Center At El Centro De La Raza. The NAACP Youth Coalition will be the Master of Ceremonies in this event featuring local artists and performers that highlight the beauty of the many cultures in Seattle. This event is sponsored by the Seattle Education Association, Social Equity Educators, Southeast Seattle Education Coalition, and Families of Color Seattle.

I hope everyone has a joyous and relaxing winter break. We look forward to seeing you in 2019!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Goldberg
