Updates, Events & More - Jan 27, 2017

Dear McDonald International students and families,

It is hard to believe that we are half-way though the school year! Spring is just around the corner and hopefully that means longer days of light, warmer weather, and the sun!

This week we hosted Kindergarten tours on Wednesday morning and Thursday night. We had over 215 adults check out McDonald International. Thank you to the parents who helped organize this event and to the 5th grade students who helped guide prospective McDonald families through our building. Tomorrow Jane and I will represent McDonald International at the Seattle Public School Option School Fair.

This week our Japanese Immersion students and teachers put together a wonderful program in celebration of the New Year. Each class performed a dance, song or play. The 5th grade Japanese Immersion students led the entire program and the event was wonderful!

Over the last couple of weeks, Ms. Pat has been very busy in the library covering and cataloging new Japanese and Spanish books. Please encourage your children to check out these books from our library.

Today, we said good-bye to our wonderful art teacher, Mrs. Baker. For the next 3 weeks, Katharine Donnelly will serve as the substitute for art. Ms. Donnelly has a lot of experience as a substitute and has served as a substitute for Ms. Baker in the past. I am thrilled that Mrs. Donnelly is able work with our students. After mid-winter break, we will fill the art position with a long-term sub for the remainder of the year. We are currently in the process of finding a long-term sub that will be a great fit for our students. As soon as that decision has been made, I will share this information with the community.

Lastly, we seem to be missing our McDonald banner. It was last seen during the Wallingford Parade this summer. If you know where the banner is located, please let me know.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and as always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,
Michelle Goldberg
