Hello McDonald families. The last 2 weeks here have been both busy and exciting! Teachers are mostly finished up their beginning of the year assessments and students are engaged with learning. It is wonderful to see so many volunteers helping in the classrooms and we appreciate all the support you provide for the teachers and students!

This past week we were visited by the organization Sister Schools. Sister Schools supports Ugandan students who would otherwise lack the resources to be successful at school. During this week’s presentation, students watched a short video about a typical day in the life of a Ugandan student. Be sure to ask your child(ren) about the differences between their typical school day and the school day for the boy in the video. In order to support the work being done by this organization we have been partnered with Sitankya Primary School in the Mukono District of Central Uganda and are collecting school supplies to donate to them. The school supply drive will continue until October 14th. Additionally, we will have a fundraising phase where we are collecting monetary donations. This will occur October 17-21.

On Wednesday we had a visit from the fire department. The fire department watched us run an evacuation and drill and shared that they were really impressed with how quickly and quietly our students exited the building.

This coming Monday we will honor Indigenous People’s Day with a school-wide assembly. One of our 3rd grade teachers has prepared a short play with her students from last year. We are looking forward to the performance.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at Move-a-Thon.
