Angela Klaassen, 3rd grade Spanish Immersion

¡Hola familias de McDonald!

Thank you so much for welcoming me into the McDonald community; I am so very excited to be here teaching 3rd grade math and science in the Spanish immersion program.

I am a Pacific Northwest native who grew up in Olympia, attended the University of Portland for my undergraduate degree in English literature and Spanish language, then continued my education with a Masters in Teaching from the University of Washington. For over a decade, including the past eight years in Seattle, I have been working as an educator in various environments: after school programs, a bilingual preschool, Kids Co. at South Shore, summer camps for kids with diabetes, and the dual language program at Concord International School.

I have loved working with students in many ways and in many different roles, as my experiences have given me insight into how to see the whole person when I work with each of my students.

My journey in Spanish began in high school and in college, where I studied the language and literature, as well as briefly lived abroad in Segovia, Spain and Morelia, Mexico. These experiences led me to volunteer as an English teacher at Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, an orphanage organization in Honduras. I have loved learning the Spanish language and experiencing all the opportunities that being bilingual and living internationally have provided me, including teaching here at McDonald International! I am thrilled to be joining my students for this step of their own Spanish journey, and I am delighted to be able to focus in on math and science and the intersection of these two content areas. I look forward to learning alongside my students this year and getting to know this community!
