Lauren Bernard, 4th Grade Humanities

“Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.” -William Butler Yeats

I’m proud to say that I’ve worked with kids and their families in the Seattle School District since 1997 and love being involved in Urban Education.  After spending last spring teaching 2nd grade Humanities at John Stanford International, I knew that International Education was where I wanted to grow the next phase of my career.

Born and raised in Los Angeles,  I moved up to Seattle 22 years ago and it’s a wonderful place to call home.  My husband Dan and I have two boys Eli (a Junior at Roosevelt) and Noah (a 7th grader at Eckstein) and an adorable mischievous dog who rounds it all out.  When I’m not teaching you can find me writing, listening to music, hanging with friends and family, cooking, swimming, walking, laughing, and traveling whenever I can.

I received my BA in Communication with a minor in English from San Diego State University, and Master’s Degree in Education at Antioch Seattle.   I’m thrilled to be teaching fourth grade Humanities at McDonald this year.
