Kelli Black, 4th Grade Spanish Immersion

klblack@seattleschools.org

I moved to Madrid, Spain when I was 8 and lived there for 10 years. I made friends from all over the world at the international school I attended. I studied Spanish grammar at school but learned to speak the language playing with friends in my community. It was immersion at its best!

I also studied French and Latin. I discovered that I really enjoyed learning new languages and meeting people from around the world.

After returning to Seattle to go to college I received a Bachelor of Interior Architecture from the University of Oregon. I practiced design in Portland, Oregon for almost 6 years before moving to Japan to teach English to students ranging from 5-85 years old.

I can speak a little Japanese after living in Okayama and Fukuoka for a combined 3 years.

I have traveled extensively around the world picking up some German along the way.

I have 2 beautiful children: Miles and Lydia. I enjoy hiking, cooking, traveling and being creative. I aspire to write a book and learn to speak Italian.
