Kate Baker, Art Specialist

kabaker@seattleschools.org

I grew up in a very small town outside Portland, Oregon. I took my first art class in junior high school. I loved it so much that I kept taking art classes throughout high school and college. After graduating from Gonzaga University with my B.A. in art and theatre, I moved across the country to Providence, Rhode Island to work as an art educator with the AmeriCorps program at the International Gallery for Heritage and Culture. During my year of service, I fell in love with teaching art. I also got a little homesick for the Pacific Northwest, so I moved to Seattle and got my Masters in Teaching from Seattle University.

Since 2012, I have been the art teacher at McDonald International School.  Before that, I worked as a multi-arts specialist at Maple Elementary in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood and as a kindergarten teacher in Elkhart, Indiana.

I still love taking art classes and making art. I have a studio in my backyard where I like to create screen printed posters and t-shirts. When I’m not making art, I like to spend time with my two precocious daughters and our mischievous pug, Buster.
