I am thrilled to be part of such a committed community in building a new program of Spanish Immersion at McDonald. I was born and raised in Madrid, Spain, where I celebrated the first 18 years of my life, and I feel fortunate to be able to share my culture and language while doing what I love most – teaching.
This opportunity with McDonald really brings together a lot of my interests: math, Spanish, and working for a start-up. Prior to teaching, I worked in media distribution and eventually got an MBA (Masters in Business Admin) with a focus on working with start-ups. I began as a consultant, but then founded a record label with two partners. It was during this venture that I became a parent and my calling to be a teacher changed my career once again and I went to get a Masters in Teaching. Though I did my student teaching with John Stanford in 1st grade Spanish immersion, I had entered the field planning to be a middle school math teacher. Instead, I found myself teaching Spanish at Stevens Elementary for a couple years before becoming a math specialist for the school and very much enjoying working in an elementary school.
Outside of teaching I enjoy my daughters; getting together with my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews; biking; reading; basketball; traveling; vacation; movies; the sun; riding a bus and going downtown with my girls; and taking history classes – just for fun!
We have a unique opportunity to build a school of bilingual learners. I realize that doing so will require a strong commitment from teachers, students, and families. But having witnessed the results, I assure you that this path is worth the additional sweat. I look forward to getting to know you and your children and sharing new experiences together.
¡Hasta pronto!
