Parent Education: Race

On Tuesday, October 24th the McDonald PTA will host an evening of parent education on the topic of Race & Social Justice featuring speaker and fellow McDonald parent, Tierra Johnson.

When: Tuesday, October 24th, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Where: McD Cafeteria

She will discuss how education, discovery and history is told from a white perspective, without many of us realizing it, until we reach higher education. This evening will provide space for questions and answers as well as offer perspective on how to have these conversations with your own children.

Childcare is available through KidsCo by following this link. Food will not be provided, so be sure your children have eaten before they arrive.


On Tuesday, October 17th the View Ridge Elementary PTA will host an evening of parent education on the topic of Kids and Race: Changing the Narrative featuring Jasen Frelot, a community activist, father, early childhood educator, and social justice advocate.

When: Tuesday, October 17th 7:00-8:30PM
Where: View Ridge Elementary School Cafeteria7047 50th Avenue NE, Seattle 98115 

Mr. Frelot will help us as parents recognize and overcome our own barriers to talking about race as well as how to present and discuss information on race with our children in developmentally appropriate ways. 

A commitment to dismantling racism and promoting equality is a community endeavor, and thus this View Ridge PTA-sponsored event is open to all interested parents, family members, neighbors and advocates.
