Girls on The Run

To the parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Girls,

This year we are offering Girls on the Run (GOTR) as an after-school program for 3rd-5th grade girls that uses running to give girls the tools to celebrate their bodies, honor their bodies, recognize their gifts, and activate their limitless potential. Our season will take place from the week of March 5 through Tuesday, May 22. The 5K will take place at Renton Memorial Stadium on Sunday, May 20, 2018. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-4:00. The program starts on March 5th-May 23rd.

Registration:
Registration opened on Monday, December 4th and will go on for 2 weeks. This is an important reminder as it is a lottery system for the first two weeks of registration, through December 15th. On December 15th, they will close registration to draw the lotteries, and reopen on Saturday, December 16th on a first come, first served basis. The registration fee in on a sliding basis.

More about the Program:
Coaches help girls get a better understanding of who they are and what's important to them. Then they look at the role of teams and healthy relationships. And, finally, they explore how girls can positively connect with and shape the world.

Meeting twice a week in small teams, life skills are taught through fun, engaging lessons that celebrate the joy of movement. The curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run® coaches and includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large. Over the course of the program, girls will develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful contribution to community and society.

At the end of the program there is a 5K race that girls will do with a running buddy. It’s a powerful experience and you can see a video here.

Interested in being coach?
You will work directly with the 3rd-5th grade girls in the Girls on the Run program by leading the girls through fun and active lessons that will be provided to prepare the girls for the non-competitive 5K event at the end of the season! Coaches do not have to be runners!
